Variations IV

Performance slots for John Cage's "Variations IV" Noon-8PM, February 22nd, 2014 at the Avant Music Festival taking place at Wild Project (195 East 3rd St.) - This is a free performance,and we're hoping to get as many people involved as possible. "Variations IV" is "For any number of players, any sounds or combinations of sounds produced by any means, with or without other activities." The score itself only denotes Where sounds should take place. If you're joining us as a performer, you may perform whatever you'd like, we'll just tell you where to go.

There are two performances (with multiple readings of the score) happening simultaneously in the same space. You may sign up in either or both, as long as your performance slots do not overlap. Durations of performance slots were determined using chance operations. You may fill as much or as little of your performance slot as you would like with sound, but we ask that you be present for you entire slot. You may perform works by John Cage, your own sounds, or other sound-based activities. Copies of many of Cage's texts will be available for you to read if you would like to read. Ideally, pre-composed sound is better than improvised. A system of electronics will remix live sound, and audience members will be encouraged to join the soundmaking as well.

If you do not require any amplification, or will be providing your own, self-contained amplification, please sign up in the first column. If you wouldn't mind, but it's not a requirement, please sign up in the middle column. If you would prefer amplification, even if it's not for the entire duration of your performance, please sign up in the right column. Generally, if you plan to read text, amplification would be suggested.

Some time slots may have other requirements built around our presentation of Europera 5 which begins at 8PM. If you sign up for one of these times, we will be in touch about specific requirements.
