Abstract:Join us for this open forum to ask questions, gain insight, and share ideas on:

• Understanding and appreciating international experiences
• Articulating the benefits and learning outcomes of study abroad and other international experiences
• Understanding why and how staff should encourage students to explore international experiences
• Marketing international experience to campus constituents (e.g., for use in employer relations or in fundraising/development efforts)

This hot topic discussion will benefit any staff, administrator, or faculty member working with students returning from or planning to study abroad or other international experiences. These areas might include, but are not limited to the following: career services professionals, housing and residential life staff, counseling centers, deans’ offices, academic advisors, two year college and university departments, international field studies/study abroad programs, administrative personnel, faculty, chaplains or spiritual personnel, etc.

Speakers:

Jessica Turos is an Assistant Director of the Career Center at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). In her current role, she provides career guidance to students and alumni, facilitates workshops, manages programs, supervises staff, and coordinates assessment efforts and employer relations strategies. She earned an undergraduate degree in psychology from Penn State Erie. Additionally, Jessica has a master of arts in college student personnel and a doctor of philosophy in higher education administration from BGSU. Her dissertation research examined employers’ perceptions of study abroad experiences.

Kelly Kowatch is Assistant Director of Career Development at the University of Michigan School of Information. She coordinates international activities, in addition to managing the both the practical engagement internship program and Alternative Spring Break programs. She was a 2009 Fulbright Commission participant in the International Education Administrators Program in German. Kelly has a BA in Economics from Michigan State University and a MA in Higher Education and Student Affairs from The Ohio State University.
